Denim Jackets and Shirts: Sampling and Development Checklist

· FASA GROUP Buyer Guides · 2 min read

Long-Sleeve Denim Shirt, front view
Catalogue design reference: Long-Sleeve Denim Shirt.

Develop denim jackets and shirts with garment-specific construction and finishing instructions. Sharing a denim direction does not mean a jacket and shirt can use one fit sheet or approval. Identify each style's material, silhouette and finish reference, then review their coordination as part of the collection.

In this guide

Separate the shirt and jacket construction sheets

Area Information to include
Upper body Collar, shoulder, sleeve and body measurements
Front Placket or closure arrangement and alignment
Pockets Count, location, dimensions and fastening
Cuffs and hem Shape, openings and finishing details
Material/finish Identified denim proposal and appearance reference

Review trim and finishing combinations

List buttons, snaps, zips or other components explicitly. Check the assembled sample in the intended finishing state and record temporary trims. Ask whether a material or finish change requires new measurement, appearance or application review rather than assuming it is a cosmetic variation.

Keep branding and collection references coordinated

  • Measured artwork positions clear of pockets and seams.
  • Approved label text, dimensions and attachments.
  • Garment-specific size/colour quantities.
  • Shared colour/finish references with any accepted differences recorded.
  • Separate sample identities for shirt and jacket approvals.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Copying a jeans specification into an upper-body garment brief.
  • Approving fabric alone while leaving the finishing state undefined.
  • Assuming an old logo proof covers a different pocket or seam layout.

Prepare the next decision

Send the two construction sheets and shared finish references together. Ask the manufacturer to identify the proposed material and sample stages required before approving either style for production.

For catalogue context, explore the Denim Wear collection and review Belted Denim Shirt Dress as a catalogue design reference; confirm its documented concept/sample status before using it in a production brief. Discuss your development requirements through the manufacturing and sampling process.
