Workwear Sample Inspection: Measurements and Workmanship Checklist
Inspect a workwear sample against a specific revision and a clear review method. The purpose is to identify whether the sample represents the agreed product and which questions remain open. A visually acceptable sample is not automatically evidence of protective compliance or readiness for every production configuration.
In this guide
Start by identifying the sample
Record the style, revision, size, colourway and material configuration. List temporary components or substitutions before measuring. Keep the sample's identity with photographs and comments so that a later reviewer cannot confuse the prototype with the final approved reference.
Use a repeatable inspection sequence
- Measure the agreed points using the specified condition and landmarks.
- Check pocket counts, dimensions, entries and closures against the drawing.
- Review seam appearance, edge finishing and visible assembly differences.
- Operate closures and adjustments in the intended wearing configuration.
- Check branding, label artwork and included components against their approvals.
Turn observations into decisions
Seam puckering can have multiple causes; Coats' technical discussion is a useful reminder to ask for the cause and proposed correction rather than assigning blame from appearance alone. Do not perform destructive sample checks without agreement on their purpose.
| Observation type | Actionable record |
|---|---|
| Measurement difference | Point, expected value, observed value and agreed action |
| Construction mismatch | Annotated location and required drawing revision |
| Appearance question | Reference used and approval still required |
| Temporary component | What can be reviewed now and what remains open |
Mistakes to avoid
- Approving the sample without identifying temporary materials.
- Sending conflicting comments from multiple reviewers.
- Treating workmanship inspection as a substitute for a laboratory assessment.
Prepare the next decision
Return one consolidated inspection sheet with accepted, rejected and conditional points. Keep the sample and agreed revisions together before authorizing the next development or production step.
